Privacy policy

What we collect

RainReady does not require an account. Depending on the features you choose, the app may handle:

• Location or route endpoints when you request current-location weather, route planning, navigation, or a map search.
• Community report details you submit, including a location, optional note, category, and optional photo.
• A display name and message when you post to community chat.
• Short-lived salted hashes of request metadata for abuse prevention and rate limiting.

How we use it

We use this information to return map, weather, route, reporting, and community features; prevent abuse; moderate public content; and keep the service reliable.

What stays on your device

Saved commutes, your preferred language, and notification preference are stored in your browser by default. Exact saved commute details are not sent to RainReady unless a feature requests a route or weather check.

What becomes public

Community reports and chat messages are public while visible. Shared routes are public snapshots for anyone with the link and expire after 24 hours.

Retention

Community reports are designed to leave the public map after about 24 hours, and chat posts after about seven days. Shared route snapshots expire after 24 hours. Some records may be retained longer for moderation, abuse prevention, backups, or required operations.

Service providers

Features may send the minimum request data needed to providers such as Mapbox, Open-Meteo, MET Norway, Environment and Climate Change Canada, RainViewer, Edmonton data services, EPCOR, and community content providers. Their own privacy policies apply.

Your choices

You can deny browser location or notification permission, avoid optional photos or names, delete saved commutes in My commutes, and clear RainReady site data from your browser settings.
